1. Blurred image? Make sure your subject is in focus.
  2. Get down! For subjects like children or animals, or just to get a different perspective, you may want to kneel.
  3. Use a flash outdoors and in any dark areas. This helps to decrease shadowing and light your subject appropriately.
  4. Switch it up. Take vertical pictures, fill your frame, get up close or off-center. It may enable you to get a shot you hadn’t seen before.
  5. Lights, camera, action! Is the subject’s face in shadow? Remember to take the lighting into account (and watch those fingers over the flash, too).
  6. “Direct” the photo. Stage the scene, arrange your subjects or try shooting from a different viewpoint.

Just a couple more things:

  1. We’re looking for people in those photos! Grab your pal, your spouse or your beautiful kids and put them in the shot! But be careful! Too many people can make a photo too busy.
  2. Please keep your submissions to two photos per account number.
  3. We’re looking for photos taken on a TAN vacation between January 1, 2009 and August 31, 2010, that you have not previously submitted.
  4. Submit your photos by August 31!
